It seems everyone is dealing with some kind of pressure in their lives. Not all pressure is bad. It moves us to action many times. The pressure of a deadline helps me prioritize and rearrange my schedule in order to do what I need to do. Exercise regimes are laden with pressures of different sorts in order to shed weight and build muscle. Contents under pressure give us aerosols and capabilities of machines to propel things like power washers, or pistons in engines.
People often tell me the chapter that really impacted them in my book, Identifying the Hierarchy of Satan: A Handbook for Wrestling to Win, was the chapter on Wrestling Rules. It was like blinders came off of their eyes to see that it was more than life’s pressures that was battering them. They were able to see a “who” behind why their pressures were op-pressive. You see wrestling, in the earthly realm as well as in the spirit realm, is a matter of pressure verses pressure. When people had their seeming overwhelming spectrum of pressure come down to a personality harassing them, there was a boldness that arose within them. They threw back their shoulders and braced themselves to apply their own measure of pressure. Their focus narrowed and their confidence was built up.
The hallmark scripture used for spiritual warfare is Ephesians 6. It says we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities, powers or authorities, rulers of darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places. The Apostle Paul tells us we are to wrestle (not flesh and blood) and then goes on to say that once we have wrestled we are to stand steadfastly.
Believers in Jesus Christ know He won the victory. We just haven’t known how the principles and mechanics of spiritual wrestling work. Recognizing pressure coming from the spirit realm can be met with strength and faith in Christ – and that puts all the advantages on our side. No wonder confidence mounts up within us. He is our victory!
